Work health safety policy statement

Objective

In accordance with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Legislation 2011, our Club and its Directors recognise their moral and legal obligations to provide a safe and healthy working environment for employees, apprentices, contractors, volunteers and labour hire employees, so far as is reasonably practical.

The Club is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its patrons, clients and visitors, so far as is reasonably practical. The Club is committed to implementing and maintaining a rigorous workplace health and safety regime that has the support of everyone in the organisation.

Maintaining a safe work environment requires everyone’s continuous cooperation. It is a partnership between you and Strathfield Sports. This means that as a worker, you are individually responsible to protect your own health and safety, and the health and safety of your co-workers and other persons who are not employees or contractors, by working in compliance with the law and with our safe work practices.

Responsibilities

Strathfield Sports Club aims to comply with its safety responsibilities in the following ways:

  • Provide a safe and healthy workplace for all workers.
  • Provide safe plant and systems of work.
  • Provide written procedures and instructions that ensure safe systems of work.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and current industry standards.
  • Provide relevant training, information, instruction and supervision to employees, contractors, visitors, patrons and customers, to ensure their health and safety.
  • Provide assistance and ongoing support to employees regarding WHS issues.

Directors and Management will:

  • Maintain the Club in a safe condition.
  • Be involved in developing, promoting and implementing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Be involved in developing, promoting and implementing workplace hazard and risk identification and management.
  • consultation and communication with employees on safety issues.
  • Train employees and in the safest method to perform their work tasks.
  • Provide adequate resources and information to meet our Club’s commitment to workplace health and safety and ensure that these resources are appropriately used.
  • ongoing assessment of workers fitness for duty.

WHS Officer/General Manager

Under the relevant WHS legislation, Strathfield Sports WHS Officer is recognised as the “Person Conducting a Business Undertaking” (PCBU) and therefore has overall responsibility for safety management within Strathfield Sports Club. This will be liaised with General Manager.  

Manager/Supervisor

  • Managers and Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that developed safety policies and procedures are effectively implemented within their areas of control, and to support staff and hold staff accountable for their specific responsibilities.
  • Monitor and Report all WHS issue.
  • In order to ensure compliance with our WHS obligations, Strathfield Sports needs to keep a record of all work-related illnesses and/or injuries, no matter how minor.

Employee/Contractor

  • Employees and Contractors are responsible for performing all aspects of their work, health and safety responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the performance of their duties, and ensures the safety of staff, patrons and the general public in a manner consistent with the legislative requirements and Strathfield Sports Club.
  • Notify Manager/Supervisor of hazards or potential hazards

Procedures

All employees are required to:

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety, and the safety of others.
  • Adhere to the Club’s WHS policy and procedures.
  • Report any injury, illness, hazard or unsafe work practice to management as immediately as possible.

The Club is committed to consulting with all its employees about workplace health and safety. We have designated WHS Safety Officer who is the first point of contact in addition to the General Manager for all employees regarding issues relating to WHS.

Breach of Policy

Strathfield Sports Club has an obligation to consistently apply and enforce this policy. Employee must understand and comply with this policy.

Any employee who breaches this policy shall be subject to counselling, training, and/or disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.
