Objective
The objective of this policy is to ensure that all employees are aware of their rights and obligations in relation to workplace surveillance. The Workplace Surveillance Act 2005 requires that all employees are given 14 days’ notice prior to the surveillance commencing, unless agreed by the employees. This policy constitutes such a notice.
Guidance
Please be advised that CCTV cameras are installed throughout the club, the images from these cameras are recorded onto Digital Video Recorders.
The use of such technology greatly assists the Club in providing a safer workplace for all staff and a safer Club for our patrons.
The video security system offers the following benefits to us all:
- It acts as a deterrent to would-be offenders against the Club, its staff and members.
- It enables us to identify persons responsible for offences against the Club, its staff, and members.
- It provides the overall security of the site by facilitating live monitoring of operations.
- It enables the Club to review events/incidents quickly
Cameras will not be installed or used in toilets, showers or change rooms.
The camera surveillance within the Club is continuous and ongoing being recorded 24hours a day, seven days per week.
Recorded video footage may be used:
- In court (criminal or civil) as evidence against any person involved in criminal or illegal activity.
- In court (criminal or civil) as evidence to support or refute a charge or claim of wrongdoing.
- To assist the Police in any manner that thy require.
- To assist in Management or the Board of Directors to effectively manage the Club.
- To create a database of persons of interest who frequent the Club who may at a future time pose a threat to the organization or its staff and members.
Recorded video footage will be stored and archived for a significant period of time. The precise period varies from weeks to permanent. If there is a complaint regarding or any questions about CCTV security, staff should speak with Management.
Procedures
Video surveillance will be utilised throughout numerous areas of the Club on a continuous and ongoing basis with recordings kept for a period of up to one (1) month before they are erased, unless part of the surveillance footage is required to be kept for legal and evidentiary purposes.
The video surveillance (CCTV) systems will not be used to monitor the performance of employees with respect to their regular duties.
Cameras used for the surveillance (or camera casings or other equipment that would generally indicate the presence of a camera) will be clearly visible in the place where the surveillance is taking place.
Signs notifying people that they may be under surveillance in that place will be clearly visible at each entrance to that place.
Other electronic data collection systems, such as till transactions may be utilised when it is deemed appropriate to do so.
Breach of Policy
Strathfield Sports Club has an obligation to consistently apply and enforce this policy. Employee must understand and comply with this policy.
Any employee who breaches this policy shall be subject to counselling, training, and/or disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.

Scope
This policy applies to all employees of Strathfield Sports and sets out the manner in which Strathfield Sports conducts workplace surveillance.
This policy applies to the use of Strathfield Systems which includes, without limitation, mobile computing devices, telephones, computers and equipment (including use of local or hard drive, software, public network, Wi-Fi, internet, intranet, email, other electronic technology communications as well as equipment and machinery).
