Objective
The objective of this policy is to continue to provide a high level of customer service to our members. It is to also ensure that all employees are aware of their obligations in relation to acceptable standards of dress and grooming whilst on premises or representing Strathfield Sports Club (SSC).
If an employee is unsure about acceptable standards of dress and grooming, they should contact the General Manager for clarification.
Responsibilities
1. Managers/Supervisors
- Be exceptionally groomed at all times, acting as a role model to all staff.
- Monitor the appearance of all employees.
- Initiate corrective action as required to maintain Grooming and Presentation standards of SSC employees.
- Take action to address situations of non-compliance with the Grooming and Presentation policy.
2. Employees
- Always comply with the Grooming and Presentation Policy.
- Always follow of directions from Managers/Supervisors regarding Grooming and Presentation.
Procedures
Uniforms Employees
- All Employees are supplied with uniforms to wear at their designated work area. This must be worn appropriately at all times throughout the entire shift.
- The number of uniforms supplied shall vary depending on the employee’s employment status.
- Employees must seek approval prior to making any alteration to their uniform.
- On ceasing employment at Strathfield Sports Club, all property belonging to the club must be returned to the club. Failure to return Strathfield Sports club property may impact on the release of final pay.
Requirements:
- Uniform to me pressed and clean at all times.
- Employees must ensure that they are neat and tidy at all times and ensure hygiene standards are maintained.
- Name badge is considered as part of uniform. It is to be worn at all times in its appropriate place.
Hair
- Employee must ensure that you hair is cleaned and neat in appearance.
1. Male
- Long hair is to be tied back using hair elastic or hair pins.
- If an employee is working in the food and beverage area. It is to be tied back at all times using hair elastic or hair pins. Hair must not hang in front of face.
- Short hair is to be styled and presented in a neat and tidy manner.
- Hair, if dyed, must appear of natural colour.
- Must not be of radical hairstyle as deemed by Management.
- Mohawks, rats’ tails, as well as unusual or unnatural colouring of hair is unacceptable.
2. Female
- Long hair is to be styled and presented in a neat and tidy manner.
- If an employee is working in the food and beverage area. It is to be tied back at all times using hair elastic or hair pins. Hair must not hang in front of face.
- Short hair is to be styled and presented in a neat and tidy manner.
- Hair, if dyed, must be of natural colour.
- Must not be of radical hairstyle as deemed by Management.

Facial Hair
- Must be clean-shaven for each shift or have a neat beard, moustache, goatee, or other facial hair style.
- No radical facial growth (as deemed by Manager/Supervisor) is permitted.
- Employees are not permitted to grow their beard during work period.
- Sideburns must be neatly trimmed
Hands
- All employees must present to work with neat, tidy and clean hands. Nails are to be short and neat or rounded. Nails and false nails longer than 1cm are not appropriate for cash handling, poker machine attending, bar work, food handling. These are generally deemed as not acceptable due to Work Health Safety concerns.
Jewellery
- All staffs are permitted to wear only stud-type earring (sleepers or large hoop earrings are not permitted due to WHS concerns).
- Jewellery must not be worn in areas where employees are operating machinery.
- No grills on teeth
- Any jewellery deemed as a workplace hazard (by a Manager/Supervisor) will need to be removed.
Tattoos
- To be covered at all times (unless exception was made by General manager because of it being discrete).
- Tattoos are not permitted in the following instances:
- On the hands or fingers (unless exception was made by General manager because of it being discrete).
- Facial tattoos
- Head tattoos
- Offensive image or quotes
- Gang or OLMG club affiliation or racially offensive tattoos
Traditional tattoos such as a Maori Ta Moko or other Polynesian tattoos that are obtained due to ethnicity expectations are allowed at the discretion of senior management.
Shoes
- All employees must wear closed black leather shoes and must be kept in a good state of repair and polished at all times. Employees are not to wear sandshoe, sport shoes, sandals, thongs, stilettos, high heels,
- Socks are to be black or the same colour as trousers.
Personal Hygiene
- All employees are reminded that personal hygiene is important. Please ensure that all employees are to present themselves clean, smelling pleasant and with fresh breath at all times.
Off duty
- Employees are reminded that they are representing Strathfield Sports whist in uniform. This includes travelling to and from work. The Board of Directors and Management Team expect that any employee wearing their uniform outside of work duties will not bring disrepute to Strathfield Sports by either misbehaving or displaying inappropriate behaviour in public.
Breach of Policy
If employee who are unsure about acceptable dress and grooming standards should contact the General Manager directly. Strathfield Sports Club has an obligation to consistently apply and enforce this policy. Employee must understand and comply with this policy.
Any employee who breaches this policy shall be subject to counselling, training, and/or disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.

Scope
This policy applies to all employees of Strathfield Sports Club.
Food Safety
All workers engaged in food receipt, preparation, serving and disposal are to abide by Food Safety standards regarding cleanliness and attire (please see the food safety plan) as well as those outlined in individual HACCP checklists.
