Long Service leave policy

Objective

Provide information and guidance to all employees of their rights and obligations in relation to long service leave. Long service leave is a legislative entitlement pursuant to the Long Service Leave Act 1955 (NSW).

Definitions

Long Service Leave (LSL)
  • Long Service Leave (LSL) is an employee’s entitlement to additional time off work on full pay after working with the employer for over 10 years.  
  • LSL entitlements will accrue in accordance with the Long Service Leave Act 1955 (NSW).
  • LSL cannot be taken as a cash payment or paid out in any circumstances.  
  • On termination, where an employee is entitles to LSL, the value of this leave will be paid out to the employee.
  • Employees who wish to take LSL should seek advice from General Manager with regards to their entitlements.
  • This is an entitlement that cannot be taken prior to 10 years of service.

Responsibilities

Employees
  • Provide a minimum of four-week notice.
  • Apply leave through Deputy.
  • Co-operate with the General Manager to plan for the period of leave and arrangements when returning.
General Manager 
  • Provide employees with information about their entitlements with regards to Long Service Leave.
  • Consult with employees to plan for the period of leave and arrangements when they return.

Procedures

Employees who apply for leave must:

  • Employees wishing to take any type of leave must complete the Leave Application Form via Deputy for applicable salaried employees.
  • Provide a minimum of four week notice so that staffing can be arranged.
  • Retain a copy of the form for own records.
  • Await notification from General Manager for the approval of such leave. General Manager will process all leave in a timely matter. Do not make pre arrangement before approval.
  • Employees are obligated to check the internal mail to assess whether their application has been accepted or denied.

Strathfield Sports may direct eligible employees to take long service leave, with one-month notice. Employees who require more information about Long Service Leave should contact the General Manager.

Breach of Policy

The Club has an obligation to consistently apply and enforce this policy. Likewise, employees must comply with this policy. 

Employees who fail to apply for leave in accordance with the above procedures, may have their request denied at that time, and alternative arrangements may be provided for your consideration. Employees who take a period of long service leave without authorisation of the Club are considered to have breached this policy.

Any employee who breaches this policy shall be subject to counselling and/or disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.

Scope

This applies to all Full time and Part Time employees who accrue over ten years of continuous service.
