Training and development policy

Objective

The objective of this policy is to ensure that all employees are aware of obligations in relation to training and development. Training and development is an important part to help ensure the professional service we deliver to our customers. Strathfield Sports encourages excellence and continuous improvement through training and development opportunities that are aligned with our organisational goals.

It is also Strathfield Sports intention to ensure that employees at all levels receive training that enables them to fulfil their responsibilities and perform their work activities competently and safely.

Responsibilities

WHS Officer
  • Oversee the organisation and delivery of external and internal training.
  • Identify training needs and manage compliance training.
  • Monitor license expiries.
Manager/Supervisor
  • Delivery of training in their area of responsibility.
  • Mentor employees during training and provide feedback where necessary. Employees
  • Participate in activities (i.e., Performance Reviews) to identify training needs.

Procedures

There are several ways training requests originate, such as: 

  • An employee sources a training course they are interested in attending.
  • An employee expresses interest in developing certain skills as discussed during their Performance Review.
  • An employee’s Manager recommends training be carried out

Training may be carried out by qualified Department representatives or any other providers that are deemed suitable.

Employees are encouraged to speak with the WHS Officer to request training where they believe a gap is present in their skills and knowledge or they believe the training would further their professional development.

Breach of Policy

Strathfield Sports Club has an obligation to consistently apply and enforce this policy. Employee must understand and comply with this policy.

Any employee who breaches this policy shall be subject to counselling, training, and/or disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees of Strathfield Sports. 

The training course recommended/requested should be directly related to the employee’s present area of responsibility.
